Celebrating 10 years of AGRISCULPTURE this year, Newburgh-born artist Amy Lewis Sweetman founded her design practice on one of the last working Dairy Farms in Orange County – Sweetman Farms of Warwick during 2012. Her mission and the mission of AGRISCULPTURE is to create metal sculpture informed by nature and farm equipment, to restore the Earth by foraging abandoned agricultural machinery as media and to teach environmental awareness – giving free/youth/public workshops involving recycled materials and the creative process of adaptive reuse. Amy loves what she does and is excited to share her outdoor AGRISCULPTURE studio with everyone. More information on her work can be found at www.agrisculpture.com.
“Amy’s ability to transform ordinary components of disused agricultural equipment into enchanting works of art is amazing,” says Sarah McKay, executive director of OCAC. “But perhaps her most moving and important work is the memorial garden in Warwick, where she memorialized a remnant of the World Trade Center towers to create the focal point of a peaceful water fountain.”
This program is made possible in part through the support of New York State Council on the Arts, Orange County Government, Shapiro's furniture, and from donations from people like you. Please consider making a donation today at www.ocartscouncil.org/support.
